between 1873, when he became prodigiously pubic, and his long-overdue murder in 1980, dr j.t. harramas considered himself to be possessed of poetic talents that were at least the equal of those of blake or byron.
he was, of course, wrong.
however, although few examples of his 'craft' have survived, the spiritual power, verbal viscosity and amoral incredulity of those that did are remarkably potent.
below is a selection of his most moving and edifying verse. astronomy,
indian cuisine and actors sitting at my desk with
leftovers saag aloo, chicken rogan, lukewarm
naan looking out the window for
supernovas but seeing only a
comet. and james
caan.

Ants last
night I drank
ants by
mistake and it didn't do me no
harm. but if ants drank
me tomorrow or the day
after it would probably
hurt.

Giant Fish Poem
(Poorly rhymed by JT Harramas, 1916)
I
wish... I wish I was a massive
fish A fish with features quite
whaleish With gills, baleen, blubber, swim
bladder (and eyelashes would make me
gladder) The ocean would be my new
home And through its waves I'd float and
roam With my tattooed flukes I'd smack the
waves And make the sharks and squid my
slaves Until one day a tiny, tiny
boat Would enter my castle (that's really all
moat) They'd cry out loud once they seen me,
I'm sure "That's the biggest fuckin' fish I ever
did saw" They'd harpoon me and spear me and rip me
in two Hack me and slash me and mangle me
too They'd process my flesh and stuff me in a
can They'd ship me to Norway, Belgium and
Japan To be eaten in sandwiches as if I were
ham Then I could finally say "I'm a happy
fish-man".
swimming pool
by Harramas, 1932
I wish I was a swimming pool, then I wouldn't be so human... the fact I have to live and work just makes me fuckin' fumin'.
